Professional Channel Lettering in Dallas for Aftershock
October 21, 2016
Aftershock London, a luxury clothing and accessory store, was opening a Dallas location within the Galleria Mall. Aftershock's corporate headquarters chose Dallas Digital Signs & Graphics to build and install their storefront signage because of our reputation for constructing high quality signage, and our dedication in getting the job done in time. This project required us to work during non-operation hours of the mall after 9pm. The store reflects elegance and sophistication, so we needed to create a signage to match.
The project began with the fabrication of reverse-lit polished stainless steel channel letters each internally lit with white LEDs. We affixed PMS color matched translucent green film on the backs of each letter to alter the interior light to match the client’s color scheme.
The goal was to produce a “halo-lit” sign with each letter individually mounted on tall stand-offs onto the storefront. Normally these types of letters would be affixed to the wall with studs for each letter, plus an additional hole for the LED wiring. However, the Aftershock storefront was constructed of imported Italian vitreous tile, which was almost impossible to penetrate even with the diamond tipped coring bits we normally use. Instead, we drilled through the wiring, and fabricated clear mounting pads for the application of the letters. After experimenting with various epoxies, we found the best solution for firmly attaching the letters was applying of a small strip of 3M “Very High Bond” double-sided tape to each plastic cap and then sealing it in place with clear silicone. This project served as a classic example on how good problem-solving, experience, and expertise is integral when it comes to adapting to surfaces that are not necessarily designed for the installation of signage.
