Exceed Oilfield Service is a worldwide leader in the Oil and Gas pipe supply business with offices in Texas and China. To advance their presence in the US, exceed was looking for a large digital sign that would be more impressive than any other sign in Midland, TX, so they contacted Dallas Digital because of our reputation for creating unique, and high quality signage.
Before we were officially hired for the project, we gave a full presentation to the executives and other board members at their Midland, TX office, about how we were going to approach and construct the digital signage. Exceed Oilfield liked how proactive and professional we were and decided to hire us to continue the project.
Since Exceed Oilfield wanted a unique and highly visible sign, we decided to build a 50' high pylon mounted digital sign that would be visible from afar. We presented Exceed with sever basic design concepts to choose from before narrowing the design based on their input. After the final design was approved, we began planning and production.
To begin the installation, we drilled two 36" diameter, 16 foot deep piers in order to install two 16" diameter 25ft long steel base tubes that would be used to hold the signage. Location and plumb were critical for these two poles, since the straightness of the finished sign would depend on them. We travelled to the job site for the drilling and installation of the base poles, before returning to our shop to continue fabrication of the remainder of the sign components.
Aluminum sheets were sheared and rolled for the forming of column jackets. This design element was chosen to give the finished sign a solid, bold look compared to just mounting it on the more slender steel poles, the bases of the two columns would receive custom made cast stone bases. After forming the jacketing sections, they were powder coated with satin black epoxy for lasting durability. From there, we created the steel sub framework and proceeded to cut and TIG weld the aluminum tubing to build the LED illuminated cabinets thaw would be above the digital sign.
The sign was engineered to withstand 120 mph winds. The curved top sign was constructed from aluminum framing, with a LED illuminated flexible face, The face itself is able to stretch extremely tightly in order to reach all sides of the framework. The smaller center sign section was fabricated in a similar manot, but used lexan faces with applied graphics to display the text.
10' x14' digital panels were supplied by our partners at Cirrus Systems, the digital sign uses true cloud based programming, which not only allows Exceed Oilfield to remotely program the sign from anywhere in the world, but also allows for fully remotely troubleshooting of all of the components of the digital sign from our home office in Dallas.
We were able to fabricate the entire sign in house. This project required a total of two trips and five days of installation. We provided a lot of options and design choices for Exceed Oilfield and included our standard customer service lifetime graphic and tech support package.
Exceed Oilfield Service now has a digital sign that can be seen throughout the city of Midland!
